Cherwell District Council Elections – Thursday 5 May

25th April 2016 by Parish Clerk

This year, as well as the election for the Thames Valley Police and Crime Commissioner there will be elections for the entire District Council.

The Boundary Commission has undertaken a review of the District’s Wards over the last couple of years and recommended changing the Wards to make them all roughly the same population size, with three District Councillors per Ward (we previously only had one). CDC agreed to adopt the recommendations and so the entire Council is up for election this year whereas in the past it has only been a third of the Councillors.

So, when you see your ballot paper on Election Day – Thursday 5 May – you will have three District Council votes.

CDC intends to go back to electing by thirds for continuity (so that there are always some experienced Councillors) and in order to do this the Councillor with the most votes will take the three year term, the Councillor with the second most votes will take the two year term and the Councillor with the third highest votes will take the one year term and be able to put themselves forward for re-election next year.

The list for Fringford and the Heyfords is availablehttp://www.cherwell.gov.uk/…/o/k/Fringfords_and_Heyfords.pdf on Cherwell District Council’s website.
